Owed to the transition of many agricultural businesses from full capacity to sideline operation, livestock farming has decreased drastically. Grassland areas has become of little use, which means that there is plenty of land for regrowing resources like grass, clover, corn, sunflowers, etc. in rural regions to grow under eco-friendly agricultural cultivation. Simply with these regrowing resources and minimum transport outlay you can provide 100% of the biogas plant needs. The biological gasification offers an environmental processing option of harvest from grassland and field into bioenergy. That means: Opening new, attractive source of income for farmers with a simultaneous creation of new jobs.
Our demonstration plant in Strem is the first biogas plant in Austria, which can produce electricity and heat from regrowing resources - without the use of manure. The arising thermal energy is fed into the local heating grid, the electricity is fed into the power grid at eco power rate.
Thanks to the research activities at the Technical University of Vienna as well as cooperation with companies like VIESSMANN and GET - Güssing Energy Technologies, the produced gas from the plants will be used for additional energy production in the near future. On one hand to heat decentralized households which can't be reached by local heating systems (Project Biogasgrid ecoEnergyland), on the other hand to create synthetic natural gas by upgrading - biologically produced natural gas with identical quality as the known "russian" natural gas.
